The Rome Area History Museum and the Duke Museum
of Military History announce “A Snapshot in Time,” a program on the 100-year anniversary of the United States’ entry into World War I, with an emphasis on the military weaponry developed during this era. Speakers include Leslie Duke, executive director of the Duke Museum of Military History, and local historian Johnny Davis. This free event will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Rome Area History Museum, 305 Broad St. The program will highlight a brief overview of the world conditions that led to the United States’ entry into WWI and Georgia’s role in sending recruits to war, then focus on the technology of modern warfare and how these weapons changed our world. The Friends of the Library’s springtime Paperback Book
Sale will be in the Oostanaula Room of the Rome-Floyd County Library on Riverside Parkway. The sale will be open April Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and April 29 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All regular-size paperbacks will be 25 cents or 5 for a $1. All oversize paperbacks will be 50 cents or 3 for a $1.

Inforum will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Thornton Recreation Center at North Floyd Park in Armuchee. The event focuses on resources available to senior citizens. The New Horizons Band will have an organizational meeting on May 4 at 6:30 p.m. in Franklin Hall at Shorter University. This group is comprised of members 50 years old or older who either played a band instrument in school and haven’t played in many years or would like to learn to play an instrument and play in a group setting.
