2 charged with traffickin­g cocaine after Metro Task Force raid

An early morning Metro Task Force raid netted two arrests on drug traffickin­g charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Eljon Delmar Jackson, 32, of 1401B Nelm St., and Charles Eugene McKnight, 57, of 15 Davis St., are facing felony charges after task force members executed a search warrant at Jackson’s home just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers found a quantity of marijuana, more than 28 grams of cocaine and a gun.

McKnight and Jackson are each charged with the felonies possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, cocaine traffickin­g and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Jackson also is charged with tampering with evidence and McKnight is facing a probation violation. Both men were being held without bond Wednesday night. Diane Wagner staff writer

Report: Floyd County men broke into outbuildin­g

Floyd County police arrested two men after a burglary at a residence in the Armuchee community.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Grady Allen Williams, 49, of 2888 Old Summervill­e Road, and Herbert Clark Buchanan, 53, of 670 Warren Road, are charged with felony burglary in the second degree and misdemeano­r criminal trespassin­g.

They’re accused of breaking into an outbuildin­g on Warren Road on Tuesday night with the intent of taking a motorcycle and other items. They were arrested around 6:20 p.m. at a location on Hatfield Road, not far from the scene of the theft. Williams is also charged with a felony probation violation and misdemeano­r theft by receiving stolen property and was being held in jail Wednesday without bond.

Buchanan was being held pending a $10,100 bond.

Man charged with possession of synthetic marijuana

Rome police charged a local man with possession of synthetic marijuana Wednesday after approachin­g him for drinking in a public place.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Johnny Ray Whatley, 34, of 15 Woodcreek Way, was arrested at the intersecti­on of Perkins Street and Calhoun

Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police said Whatley admitted to drinking from a bottle of bourbon that was found next to him and also had a cigarette wrapper with a quantity of synthetic marijuana. Whatley is charged with felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance and a misdemeano­r for drinking in a public place. He was being held in the Floyd County Jail Wednesday pending a $3,500 bond.
