Motorcyclist flees police through Catoosa

RINGGOLD —A Rossville man was recently shot with a stun gun after leading authorities in a high-speed motorcycle chase through Catoosa County only to lose control and crash the vehicle, police say.

According to the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department:

Christopher Lynn Franklin, 39, of West Peachtree Street in Rossville, was arrested Aug. 22 on charges of reckless driving, speeding, fleeing or attempting to elude police officers, driving while license suspended, and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers. His bond was set at $8,100.

Franklin allegedly initiated the chase just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, along Reeds Bridge Road.

Cpl. Deric North said he tried to pull Franklin over because he couldn’t see any visible registration on the vehicle, at which time Franklin took off.

“I initiated my blue lights, however, the motorcycle sped up,” North said. “The motorcycle continued westbound on Reeds Bridge Road at speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour.”

The chased ended on Macfarlane Avenue when Franklin lost control of the bike and wrecked it, reports show.

After the crash, North says, Franklin took off on foot, which prompted him to use his stun gun twice before getting him to comply.

“I deployed the second cartridge from my conducted electrical weapon, at which time Mr. Franklin stated, ‘OK, I give up,’” North said.

After being handcuffed, Franklin said he tried to outrun police because he didn’t have a valid driver’s license.

Franklin was taken to Cornerstone Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe for evaluation of minor abrasions suffered during the wreck. He was medically cleared and then taken to jail.
