Convicted felon charged with possession of a firearm

A Rome man, who is a convicted felon, has been jailed after reportedly being caught with two stolen firearms in West Rome.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Hosea Bingham Jr., 32, of 556 N. Division St., was arrested Monday night after showing the weapon during a verbal altercatio­n with a woman at his home. When police arrived, they recovered a Diamondbac­k DB series 5.56 caliber black assault rifle and a Hi Point .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol from the scene.

Bingham was charged with two felony counts of theft by receiving stolen property, two felony counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeano­r counts of simple assault, obstructio­n of officers and cruelty to children.

Bingham is being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond.

2 charged with theft by receiving stolen vehicle

Two Floyd County residents have been accused of fleeing from Alabama officers but were ultimately caught by Alabama sheriff’s deputies near Georgia Power Plant Hammond.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Nicholas Justin Ashley, 26, of 320 Biddy Road, and Catherine Gina Sartin, 25, of 2012 Maple Road, are both charged with felony theft by receiving a stolen motor vehicle after being caught on Alabama Highway by the deputies from Cherokee County.

The two were in possession of a Honda Accord that had been reported stolen in Emerson.

Sartin was being held in the Floyd County Jail on Tuesday pending a $3,500 bond while Ashley was being held without bond on a probation warrant.

Report: 2 jailed after fleeing from traffic stop near 411, Bypass

A couple of Rome men face a variety of charges after police clocked a vehicle speeding at 81 miles per hour while they fled from a traffic stop, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Jonathan Lovell Brown, 33, of 115 E. 14th St., was behind the wheel of the vehicle which was stopped near the intersecti­on of U.S. 411 east and Veterans Memorial Highway. Police said he was under the influence of marijuana and operating a vehicle without insurance.

Brown was charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude and misdemeano­rs for driving under the influence, no valid insurance, driving without a seat belt, failing to maintain a lane, reckless driving, speeding, hit and run, failing to obey a traffic device and violation of a limited permit.

Terry Wayne Curry, 33, of 230B Huffaker Road, was a passenger in the vehicle and is charged with a felony fugitive from justice and misdemeano­rs for counts of contempt of court related child support warrants, giving authoritie­s a false name and date of birth, forgery for possession of counterfei­t currency and not wearing a seat belt.

Curry was being detained in the Floyd County Jail without bond Tuesday while Brown was being held pending a $7,900 bond.
