Bitter cold and snow are expected throughout today

Northwest Georgia is under a winter weather advisory from 10 a.m. today through 7 a.m.

Northwest Georgia is under a winter weather advisory from 10 a.m. today through 7 a.m. Wednesday because of dangerousl­y cold wind chills and expected snow accumulati­on.

Rome and Floyd County schools have said they’ll notify students early in the morning whether school will be in session.

At a National Weather Service briefing on Monday forecaster­s said there is a growing confidence in prediction­s our area will get snow accumulati­on of less that one inch.

Flurries could start as early as 7 a.m. in the northernmo­st portions of the state and are expected to continue through this evening.

Really cold temperatur­es are expected with wind chills in the single digits. Tuesday’s high is expected near 41 with the temperatur­es dropping throughout the day to a low around 12.

There is around a 60 percent chance of precipitat­ion throughout the day.

On Wednesday, it will be sunny and bitter cold with a high near 30 but wind chill values as low as -3.

Wednesday night’s now is expected around 16.

Temperatur­es will begin warming up somewhat on Thursday and Friday with highs expected in the 40s and a high near 57 expected on Saturday.
