‘Murder at the Skydale Hop’ mystery dinner theatre takes place March 15 at The Forum River Center
The fourth annual Murder Mystery Dinner fundraiser benefiting Floyd Against Drugs will take place March 15 at The Forum River Center.
The event is sponsored by Harbin Clinic Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and the theme of this year’s murder mystery is “Murder at the Skydale Sock Hop.” It will feature a cast of several local business and government leaders.
This year’s cast includes an entertaining lineup of local personalities portraying the senior class at Skydale High. It’s 1955 and this year’s SockHop is being televised on National Band Stand with host Chance Plantaine (Ryan Cox) and special guest Rock ‘n Roll star Pelvis (played by Robert Smyth).
However, there has been a build up of tensions from the first semester dance between some of the students and adults. There’s no telling what drama could unfold. Principal McGlee (Rhonda Wallace) is just hoping that everyone will behave and make the school look good on national television and in front of her special guest, Pelvis.
The cast includes Brad Bushnell as Denny Russo, Mark Webb as know-it-all Dexter Pelsnick, Rome Braves’ Jeff Fletcher as Nicky “Flick” Murdock, County Commissioner Scotty Hancock as Rudy Del Fuego, Rome News-Tribune’s Severo Avila as Vinny Copano and Clem Slack as Debbie Ritzo, just to name a few.
Guests will enjoy dinner at the SockHop while the action takes place all around them. But some time during the evening’s festivities, a murder will take place and it’s up to the guests to figure out who did it.
The entertaining event sells out each year and those interested in attending are encouraged to get tickets early.
The funds raised benefit Floyd Against Drugs and its efforts to decrease substance use in Floyd County and Rome City.
Contributions and sponsorships from individuals, businesses and organizations allow FAD to continue community awareness activities about the extent and impact of substance use in the community.
An example of one activity the group recently completed is a Sticker Shock Campaign in local liquor stores where labels are placed on bags and packaged goods displaying the legal consequences of purchasing and providing alcohol to minors in an effort to reduce underage access to alcohol.
This year’s event is expected to draw about 300 participants and sponsoring businesses will be featured in the event program. In addition, for choosing to be the Platinum sponsor of the event at the $1000 level your business/company will receive two free tickets to the event and all perks of the lower sponsor levels. A Gold ($500) sponsor will have their business logo placed on the billboard, event posters, Facebook, FAD website, and be included in radio and public service announcements. There are also Silver ($250) and Bronze ($100) sponsorship levels as well.
In addition there is a silent auction for which donations are being accepted. FAD suggests an item(s) be of at least a $100 value. A FAD member can pick up the item at the donor’s convenience.
Tickets are $40 per person and there are also tables available for groups.
Tickets are available online at www. floydagainstdrugs.com.
