Police: Man punched, choked woman while kids watched
A Rome man accused of punching a woman in front of two children was in jail without bond Monday.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Justin Cody Overby, 24, of 1514 Flannery St., is facing a felony charge of aggravated assault, two counts of cruelty to children in the third degree and misdemeanor battery.
He was arrested at his home Sunday night after reportedly punching the 23-year-old woman in the face and choking her in front of the children.
Visitor accused of stabbing car tires
A Tennessee man who reportedly said he just wanted to go home was in jail on assault charges Monday, pending a $11,200 bond.
According to Floyd County Jail and Rome Police Department reports:
Paul Lyle Cain, Jr., 54, of 2201 Eighth Ave. South, Apt. 203, in Nashville, was arrested at a home he was visiting on Dean Avenue and charged with the felonies aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.
Witnesses told police Cain apparently took too much of his prescription Xanax and cut a tire on his car when he was told he shouldn’t drive. Officers
left after a promise to calm down but were called back later after Cain tried to drive again, threatened a man with an open knife and stabbed another of his tires.
