Kenneth Ross Cormany

Mr. Kenneth Ross Cormany, age 90, of Rome, passed away at a local healthcare facility on Monday, February 26, 2018. Mr. Cormany was born in Rome, Georgia on December 4, 1927, the son of the late Ross Cox Cormany and Mary Mitts Cormany. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Alice Cormany.

He graduated from Rome High School, Class of 1944, as Valedictor­ian. He then attended Georgia Tech and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineerin­g. He served 16 years active and reserve in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a Major in the Army Reserve. He served in many civic and profession­al organizati­ons. He was a member of advisory boards at Coosa Valley Tech in Rome and area vocational schools in Columbus, Ga., was a member-at-large of the Rome Exchange Club and the Coosa Valley Fair Associatio­n, the Society of Profession­al Engineers, NW Georgia Chapter, life member of the Edison Electric Institute, EEI — Codes and Standards National Committee, IEEE (Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers), Power Engineerin­g Society, SEE (Southeaste­rn Electric Exchange), and CIGRE (Internatio­nal Conference on Large High Voltage Systems). From May of 1986 to March of 1987 he was Vice President, office of the Chief Executive, of Georgia Power, assisting the CEO in all areas of his activities and coordinati­ng the Company Guidelines and Practices Committee, and from March of 1987 until recently, he was the consultant for the electrical utility industry and various other committees and organizati­ons throughout his engineerin­g career with Georgia Power.

He was a member of Second Avenue Baptist Church, Rome, the Men’s Sunday School Class, a former member of the Coosa Country Club, Rome, and Dunwoody Country Club in Atlanta, a member of the Prince Club of Rome, the Lake Rabun Associatio­n, Lakemont, Georgia, and a former member of the Nine O’clock Cotillion in Rome. He loved collecting stamps from around the world, computers and above all, boating and relaxing at Lake Rabun in Rabun County, Georgia.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Rebecca Freeman Cormany, Rome; daughter, Kay Cormany Duffey, Ellijay, Georgia; grandchild­ren, Cliff Duffey of Alexandria, Virginia, Ken Duffey and his wife Kate of Athens, Ga., Spencer Duffey of Portland, Oregon; great-grandchild­ren, Mary Susan Duffey, Kate Duffey, and Maisie Duffey.

Services for Mr. Cormany will be held Saturday morning, March 3, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Second Avenue Baptist Church, Rome, with the Rev. Monty Stallins officiatin­g. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Those serving as pallbearer­s are Cliff Duffey, Ken Duffey, Spencer Duffey, and Dwight Cassity. A private interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. The American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 Honor Guard will render military rites. The family asks that members of the Exchange Club, the Men’s Sunday School Class of Second Avenue Baptist Church, and the members of The Prince Club serve as honorary pallbearer­s.

Rev. Coleman Monroe Wood

Rev. Coleman Monroe Wood, age 81, of Silver Creek, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at his residence.

Rev. Wood was born in Lindale, Georgia on September 28, 1936, son of the late Rev. Irah Monroe Wood and the late Mary Etta Akins Wood. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Hope Renee Wood, by a sister, Gwen Wood Graham, and by a brother, Billy Monroe Wood. Rev. Wood was a 1956 graduate of Pepperell High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for many years in retail at Colonial Stores in Lindale, Super D Stores in Rome, Cartersvil­le and Piedmont, Ala., Family Dollar Stores in Carrollton, Kroger in Rome and Marietta, and lastly was Assistant Manager of Walmart in Rome, Carrollton and Cartersvil­le.

Rev. Wood was ordained into the Gospel ministry on March 15, 1964 and served in the ministry from 1956 until his death. He served as Pastor at Trinity Baptist Church, Cartersvil­le, New Cannon Baptist Church, Cartersvil­le, Community Chapel Baptist Church, Rome, Northwood Baptist Church, Rome, Emmanuel Baptist Church, Rome, and as Assistant Pastor of New Harmony Baptist Church, Rome. He had served for several years as a Minister of Music and previously sang with the Roman Gospelette­s. He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church, Rome, where he was the assistant teacher of the Adult Sunday School Class and sang with the Prazin Hymn Trio with his wife, Jane, and son, Joseph Roberson. If Rev. Wood could preach one more sermon, it would be titled “Prepare to Meet Your God.”

Survivors include his wife, Jane Edwards Wood, to whom he was married on June 23, 1996; four children, Mark Wood and his wife, Trish R. Wood, Lindale; Lisa Harwell and her husband, Tracey, Lindale; Jason Chafin and his wife, Penny, Silver Creek; and Joseph Roberson and his wife, Marsha, Silver Creek; six grandchild­ren, Chris Harwell and his wife, Montana, Chad Redden, Austin & Jenna Chafin, and Zach & Laura Roberson; four great-grandchild­ren, Brayden, Chandler & Hunter Redden, and Ireland Hope Harwell; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Jackson Davis and the Rev. Harold Ingram officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Wax Cemetery with the Rev. Kyle Graham officiatin­g and the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 5 until 7 p.m.

Pallbearer­s are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and include David Garrett, Larry Padgett, Farren Bailey, Paul Vinson, Jesse Jenkins, and Russell McMichael.

Mr. Kennie Eugene “Gene” Young Jr., age 60, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018, in a local hospital.

Mr. Young was born on June 9, 1957, in Rome, Ga., son of the late Kennie Eugene Young and the late Grace Roberson Young Henson. Gene grew up in East Rome and was a youth at the boys home, where he was known as “Dino.” At the age of 16, he changed his life around and got saved. Gene graduated from East Rome High School in 1974. In his later youth, he was into softball and body building, earning the nickname “Hulk.” Gene was an avid Auburn War Eagles fan, a lover of music, music history and trivia (especially Elvis), was a fantastic dancer and wonderful storytelle­r. He met his wife on a blind date and won her over with his jovial personalit­y and wit. They dated for three years and they married on March 12, 1983.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Ginger Inez Young, Rome; nine brothers & sisters, Pam Hinson (Charlie), Blairsvill­e, Ga.; Jimmy Young (Madeleine), Pendergras­s, Ga.; Kay Jenkins (David), Dahlonega, Ga.; Cricket Dills (Buck), Blairsvill­e; Mae Amato (Ric), Blairsvill­e; Dwayne Henson, Blairsvill­e; Mary Jordan (Brandon), Jacksonvil­le, Fla.; and Thomas Henson, Blairsvill­e; four brothersin-law & sisters-in-law, Gerald Smith (Jolie), Cedartown; Kyle Smith (Melissa), White; Lacy Smith (Kim), Jacksonvil­le, Ala.; and Megan Smith, Alexandria; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother-inlaw, Jay Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with Pastor David Nance officiatin­g. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 2, 2018, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel.

Pallbearer­s are asked to meet at the funeral home on Saturday by 1:30 p.m. and include Rene Brumbelow, Willie Burdette, Steve Hughes, Wayne Hughes, Dana Collum, Alex Ward, Justin Smith, and Brennon Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Steve Bailey.
