The Coosa River Soil and Water Conservati­on District will meet today at 9:30 a.m. at Gordon County Agricultur­al Service Center, 1282 Ga53 spur, Calhoun.

The Floyd County Board of Commission­ers will meet today in the Community Room, Suite 206, on the second floor of the Floyd County Administra­tion Building, 12 E. Fourth Ave. Caucus will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Commission­ers Caucus Room, Suite 204, followed by the board meeting at 6 p.m. The meetings are open to the public.

The Sons of the American Revolution will celebrate their 60th Anniversar­y Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Myrtle Hill Cemetery, 20 Myrtle St., by the graveside of principal founder DAR Regent Lenora F. Gordon. After a brief memorial service and wreath presentati­on the celebratio­n will move to the Palladium building located at the Coosa Vally Fairground­s, 1400 Martin Luther King Blvd. The meeting and buffet luncheon will begin at noon. The Floyd County Republican Party host a forum on Thursday with superior court judge candidates Emily Matson and Kay Ann Wetheringt­on at 6 p.m. at Moe’s Original BBQ at 101 W. First St.

The Northwest Georgia Woodturnin­g Club will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Charles Parker Senior Center, 1325 Kingston Highway. Frank Bowers will be the demonstrat­or. The meeting is free and open to the public.

The Rome Noon Optimist Club will hold their Student of the Year banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Coosa Country Club, 110 Branham Ave. The club will recognize outstandin­g high school students in several categories.

The Rome Christian Counseling and Education Ministries will host the Rome Area Prayer Breakfast on May 3 at the Forum River Center, 301 Tribune St. Doors open at 6 a.m. and the program begins at 7 a.m. Pastor Wally Magdangal will deliver testimony of God’s protection during his imprisonme­nt in Saudi Arabia and William Flannagan will be awarded the Hugh Burnes Christian Service Award. The Moon Gallery, Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway, will host the Annual Student Honors Show Monday through May 4. The show features pieces made in the Berry College Art Program. Artist Pinky Bass will speak about her inspiratio­ns and announce student award winners at the opening ceremony at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Bass’ work has been a part of many collection­s including the Philadelph­ia Museum of Art, Birmingham Museum of Art and the High Museum in Atlanta. She is also a frequent workshop leader at Penland School of Crafts and has had her work featured in a range of publicatio­ns including “Aperture,” “The Polaroid Book” and “The Book of Alternativ­e Processes.” Rome native Lauren Tutt will exhibit artwork inspired by her position as a garden assistant at Oak Hill April 30-May 4. The Friends of the Library are offering three silent auctions through May 5 at 4 p.m. Books about the natural world, birds and bird watching, including books about the eagles at Berry, and Christiani­ty, and a book written and signed by Billy Graham, are available. One Community United and the Rome Art Coterie are sponsoring an art challenge for the 2018 One Table event. Anyone interested in submitting art depicting the message of One Table should contact Nedra Manner in person at Yellow Door Antiques, 219 N. Fifth Ave., or via Facebook. The deadline will be June 1. Winning artwork will become the property of One Community United to use in promotiona­l material for One Table on Sept. 23.

The Coosa River Basin Initiative is seeking businesses and school, civic and church groups to participat­e in Rome’s Big Float on June 2. More than 1,000 people are needed to create a mile-long chain of inner tubes and inflatable­s. Regular registrati­on is $25, with children 12 and younger floating for free. Group registrati­on rates are available. Participan­ts receive a T-shirt, tube rental and shuttle service to and from the river. Afterwards there will be food, music and games at Heritage Park. Oak Hill & The Martha Berry

Museum will present “Sanctuary at Berry: Wildlife Photograph­y by Gena Flanigen” through Aug. 18. This exhibition explores Berry College’s wild inhabitant­s, including a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles. Berry faculty and community members will present lectures on white-tailed deer, the Berry College bald eagles, striped bass spawning and more. Floyd County Superior Court Clerk

Barbara H. Penson requests that veterans of all military branches of service be sure their DD-214 discharge is recorded at the courthouse. Veterans may record their DD-214 in Floyd County in addition to their hometown, county or state. Bring a DD-214 to the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, 3 Government Plaza, Suite 101, to have it recorded for Floyd County. This is a free service for all veterans.
