Plainville man dies in wreck on Ga. 140

A man died Saturday after suffering multiple blunt force trauma injuries in a wreck involving a tractor-trailer on Ga. 140 near Big Oak Tree Road in Adairsvill­e, according to Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton.

Bartow Headlines reported the identity of the man as Jason Manning, 45, of Plainville.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, Guyton said. The wreck backed up traffic for hours on Ga. 140.

Georgia State Patrol troopers with the Cartersvil­le Post are in charge of the investigat­ion. They did not return a request for comment Saturday.

Man accused of assault, threats

A Rome man remained in jail without bond Saturday night after being accused of assaulting a woman, destroying her phone and preventing her from leaving an apartment. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Jimmy Lee Ashworth, 35, 1071 Woods Road, was arrested Friday on charges stemming from the incident at a Redmond Circle apartment earlier this week. He is charged with fel0ny aggravated assault and terroristi­c threats and acts along with misdemeano­r battery and criminal trespass — all filed under the Family Violence Act. He is also charged with felony false imprisonme­nt and two counts of misdemeano­r third-degree cruelty to children.

On Wednesday, around 11:30 p.m., Ashworth grabbed the woman’s ankle and dropped her onto a coffee table. He then grabbed her neck and pulled her up, holding her off the ground before releasing her.

The apartment door was then locked and he stood in front of it to stop her from leaving. Her cellphone was broken by him, so she could not call 911. Prior to leaving the scene, he hit her on the side of her face with the hand he was holding a foam cup of water in.

The assault was done before two of the woman’s young children, both under the age of 8.

Chase ends with meth discovery

A Rome man remained in jail without bond Saturday night after being accused of having 14 grams of methamphet­amine on him when he led police on a chase which ended with him being taken down to the ground by an officer. According to Floyd County Jail reports: Anthony Wayne Moon, 36, of 5 Wellington Way, was arrested just after 1 p.m. Friday in the area of the Booze Mountain Road and Reeceburg Road intersecti­on.

The chase started when police saw Moon come speeding through the red light at Booze Mountain Road and Park Avenue on his motorcycle and accelerati­ng to over 80 mph in a 40 mph zone. Police pursued him on Booze Mountain Road. When Moon was cut off by a patrol car at Reeceburg Road, he got off the motorcycle and ran.

Police caught up to him and took him to the ground in an attempt to arrest him. Moon would not follow officers’ commands to put his hands behind his back. The half-ounce of meth was found in a cigarette pack he had.

Man accused of pushing father

A Rome man remained in jail pending a $9,645 bond Saturday night after being accused of pushing his 74-year-old father during an argument.

According to Floyd County Jail reports: Kenneth David Price, 54, of 233 Price Road, was arrested Saturday and charged with felony cruelty to a person 65 years of age or older. He also faces misdemeano­r charges of driving without a license and speeding in excess of maximum limits.

The incident with his father occurred earlier this month — June 6 — when he started an argument with his father, according to a warrant for his arrest. He pushed his father and knocked him back onto a couch, the warrant stated.
