Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum will present “Sanctuary at Berry: Wildlife Photograph­y by Gena Flanigen” through Aug. 18. This exhibition explores Berry College’s wild inhabitant­s, including a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles. Berry faculty and community members will present lectures on white-tailed deer, the Berry College bald eagles, striped bass spawning and more. The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office will host a church safety and security summit Aug. 25 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Forum River Center, 301 Tribune St. The event will include discussion­s of church security and active shooter training, stewards of children training, child safety procedures and a domestic violence. The Visitors Center at Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden will have artwork on display by Summervill­e’s Donnie Davis through Sept. 1. Davis’s current collection is comprised of a series of paintings depicting various scenes in and around Paradise Garden. Davis teaches painting classes for adults at Paradise Garden. Paradise Garden is open Tuesday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

Oak Hill & The Martha Berry Museum will be participat­ing in Blue Star Museums to offer free admission to military personnel and their families through Sept. 3. Blue Star Museums is a collaborat­ion among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and more than 2,000 museums across America. Habitat for Humanity Coosa Valley is accepting applicatio­ns for the “A Brush with Kindness” program. The program assists homeowners in Floyd County by painting and performing minor repairs on the exterior of their homes. Applicatio­ns may be picked up at the ReStore, 95 Three Rivers Drive. There is a $10 fee for a background check. Homeowners will be required to make a 10 percent down payment on the estimated cost of the project.

Floyd County Superior Court Clerk Barbara H. Penson requests that veterans of all military branches of service be sure their DD-214 discharge is recorded at the courthouse. Veterans may record their DD-214 in Floyd County in addition to their hometown, county or state. Bring a DD-214 to the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, 3 Government Plaza, Suite 101, to have it recorded for Floyd County. This is a free service for all veterans.

Floyd County Court Appointed Special Advocates staff will hold volunteer training from

9 a.m.-3 p.m. on July 21. Classes will be held at the CASA office in the Restoratio­n Rome building, 1400 Crane St. Participan­ts must attend both days and attend 10 hours of juvenile court observatio­n to become sworn CASA volunteers. CASA recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers to bring individual attention, urgency and advocacy to abused and neglected children in the foster care system, both in and out of the courtroom. Little River Canyon National Preserve, 4322 Little River Trail, Fort Payne, Alabama, will have nature hikes in both English and Spanish on July 21 at 10 a.m. at the Beaver Pond Trailhead and at 2 p.m. at Canyon Mouth Picnic Area. The Beaver Pond Trail hike is free but the Canyon Mouth day use fee will apply ($10 per vehicle for a 7-day pass/$25 for a season pass) at the gate to Canyon Mouth. The hikes are a little over two hours each and cover 1.5–2 miles. Visitors should wear walking shoes. Water, a hat, sunscreen, bug repellent and a camera are suggested. The annual Berry College summer Farmer’s Market will be open July 21 from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. on Clara Bowl Drive at Berry College, 2277 Martha Berry Highway. The market is hosted by the Berry College Student Enterprise Program and includes studentope­rated businesses along with outside vendors.
