Rome man dies in Friday wreck

Floyd County authoritie­s have identified the victim of an early morning wreck Friday at Kingston Road and Veterans Memorial Bypass as Therian Smith, 76, of Rome.

Smith was attempting to make a right turn from Kingston Road westbound onto the bypass when he pulled in front of a tractortra­iler that was also westbound on the bypass.

Deputy Coroner Connie Chandler said Smith, who was a retired teacher at the Riverside School in Rome and Adairsvill­e Middle School, was pronounced dead from blunt force trauma.

A Summervill­e couple has been jailed in Rome after a traffic stop on Martha Berry Highway that resulted in the recovery of about four ounces of marijuana.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Nicholas Lloyd Trammell, 36, and Kandice Adair Trammell, 33, both of 156 Crow St., Summervill­e, were arrested Friday in the 6200 block of Martha Berry Highway by Floyd County Police.

Both were charged with felony counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and felony possession of marijuana.

Nicholas Trammell also faces a felony parole violation and is being held in the jail without bond.

Kandice Trammell was also charged with driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance, both misdemeano­rs, and is being held in jail pending a $16,700 bond.

A Rome man faces numerous charges after allegedly attempting to flee from police who attempted a traffic stop for failing to obey a yield sign.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Patrick Cortez Turner, 33, of 22 Tamassee Lane, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana after more than an ounce of pot was found in his car after he finally stopped for police Friday night just after 11 p.m.

Police reported that Turner was seen running a stop sign at Waters and Graham streets. He also failed to signal when he got onto Martha Berry Boulevard and was taken into custody a short time later.

In addition to the felony drug charges, Turner faces several misdemeano­r traffic charges and has been released from jail on $5,700 bond.

A West Rome woman faces a felony false imprisonme­nt charge after reportedly assaulting a 28-year-old Rome man and refusing to allow him to leave a home on Brookwood Avenue

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Kayniesha Neshae Montgomery, 22, of 82 Brookwood Ave., was charged with false imprisonme­nt and a misdemeano­r for battery after she caused visible injuries to the victim’s neck and arm during the altercatio­n Friday afternoon.

Montgomery has been released from jail on $2,600 bond.
