Pos­si­ble tor­nado blamed for mi­nor in­juries at Ge­or­gia base

KINGS BAY NAVAL SUB­MA­RINE BASE — A Navy spokesman says a sus­pected tor­nado left five peo­ple with mi­nor in­juries, tossed at least two pas­sen­ger ve­hi­cles into the wa­ter and dam­aged a cou­ple of small build­ings at a sub­ma­rine base on the coast of Ge­or­gia.

Cam­den County in Ge­or­gia’s south­east cor­ner was un­der a tor­nado warn­ing Sun­day af­ter­noon when the pos­si­ble twis­ter struck Kings Bay Naval Sub­ma­rine Base.

Base spokesman Chris Tucker said Mon­day the dam­age was con­tained to an iso­lated cor­ner of the base. He said two sailors got knocked over as they were ty­ing up a se­cu­rity boat. He says the sailors and three other peo­ple in­jured in the storm were treated and re­leased from lo­cal hos­pi­tals.
