Report of TV theft from local motel leads to felony drug charge

A Floyd County man is facing a felony drug charge after police looked into an accusation that he stole a flat screen TV from the Royal Inn.

According to Rome Police Department and Floyd County Jail records:

Charles Shane Little, 35, 2405 Rockmart Highway, no. 3, was being held without bond Tuesday on felony possession of methamphet­amine and a felony probation violation.

Police were called Monday to an area near the Royal Inn, 1201 Martha Berry Blvd., about a woman and man in camouflage carrying a flat screen TV stolen from the motel. They tracked down Little behind a building across the highway.

Little had a meth pipe containing residue and led police to some bushes where the television was hidden. The motel declined to press charges and the stolen item was returned.

Alabama man brought to Rome on bail-jumping charge

An Alabama man was in jail without bond Tuesday, charged with bail jumping.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Tommy Glenn Stephens, 54, of 138 County Road 379 in Centre, Alabama, was brought from the Calhoun County, Ala., jail Monday to face a felony charge of bail jumping and misdemeano­r failure to appear.

Stephens is accused of leaving the state to avoid a June 22, 2018, appearance in Floyd County Superior Court. A warrant for his arrest was issued Oct. 25, 2018.

Rome woman arrested on drug charge

A Rome woman stopped on the Ga. 1 Loop at Ga. 293 was in jail without bond Tuesday on drug charges.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Stacey Denise Thurman, 40, of 2394 Black’s Bluff Road, had oval pills in a container that was not properly labeled when she was stopped Monday afternoon by county police.

Thurman is charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, misde- meanor failure to keep drugs in the original container and a felony probation violation.

Silver Creek man accused of breaking woman’s finger

A Silver Creek man accused of throwing a woman up against a wall was in jail Tuesday with a bond set at $5,700.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Fabian Orozco, 29, of 23B Woodberry Drive in Silver Creek, threw the woman against a wall, ripping her shirt and breaking her little finger. He was arrested Monday at his home.

Orozco is charged with felony aggravated battery, misdemeano­r simple assault and misdemeano­r criminal trespass.

Alabama man jailed on felony gun charge

An Alabama man brought from the Cherokee County Jail to face a gun charge in Rome was in jail without bond Wednesday.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Tyler Mitchell Morgan, 23, of 5900 County Road 8 in Piedmont, Alabama, is charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Local police found him with a Kel-Tec .22-caliber pistol when they executed an Alabama arrest warrant on Nov. 8, 2018. A Georgia warrant was issued seven days later.

Man trades broken crossbow for stolen pistol

Rome police confiscate­d a Taurus pistol after a resident asked them to check if it was stolen and they determined it was.

According to Rome Police Department reports:

Officers initially went to the West 13th Street apartment late Monday night to take a report from a woman who said her wallet had been stolen from her hospital room on Jan. 25.

Her husband then took them aside and asked if there was a way to check his Taurus PT 140 .40-caliber handgun “to see if it was dirty.” Officers ran the serial numbers through the state database and it had been reported stolen.

The man said he was outside trying to fix his broken crossbow when a man came up and offered to trade the gun for the bow.

Report: Man swallows bag of meth at jail

A Floyd County man suspected of swallowing a bag of methamphet­amine was in the medical wing of the jail Tuesday with no bond set.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Jesse Willard Brooks, 35, of 172 S. Avery Road, was initially arrested Saturday on a misdemeano­r probation violation. He was additional­ly charged Monday with felony tampering with evidence.

Brooks was at the jail when he took a bag of suspected meth from his pocket and swallowed it to keep booking officers and deputies from finding it.

Rome man charged with aggravated stalking

A Rome man who violated a court order when he struck a woman in the face has been jailed on a felony aggravated stalking charge.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Charles William Garrison, 45, of 105 Boyd Road, is accused of striking a woman on the right side of her face which caused bruising under an eye. He had been ordered to have no contact with the victim. The incident is alleged to have occurred Jan. 23.

He is also charged with a felony probation violation and misdemeano­r battery.
