Report: Traffic stop for speeding leads to drug arrests of 2 Cedartown residents

Two Cedartown residents were arrested at the intersecti­on of Ga. Loop 1 and Calhoun Road on charges of possession of meth and drug-related objects.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Steven Chance Brown, 28, and Angela Dawn Smith, 48, were pulled over after Brown drove 72 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone. While doing an inventory search, Floyd County police officers found a glass smoking device with methamphet­amine residue and a small plastic bag containing meth in the drive side door panel.

Smith is also charged with misdemeano­r failure to appear and remained in jail Thursday with a $3,500 bond. Brown is also charged with speeding and was being held for the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office on unspecifie­d charges.

Report: Rome man found with ‘gray death’

A Rome man was released on bond Thursday after Rome police officers arrested him on charges of driving a motorcycle without a license and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. According to jail reports: Benjamin David Highsmith, 30, had an amount of “gray death” in his possession during his arrest at the High Tech Fuel gas station on Martha Berry Boulevard. Gray death is a mix of several different opioids and is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance.

Man charged with cocaine possession

A Rome man was arrested at the intersecti­on of Maple Avenue and East 16th Street on charges of having a suspended license and cocaine. According to jail reports: Bobby Renorris Watkins, 51, was initially pulled over for an improper tail light, but the Rome police officer found that he also had a suspended license. While searching him, the officer also found a small bag of cocaine.
