No arrests yet in Shannon fatal shooting

♦ Investigators still seeking help from the public about the shooting as they work to eliminate potential suspects.

Police are still seeking help in the investigation into the fatal shooting of a Shannon woman on Aug. 24.

Laura Regina Ross was at her home at 126 Baker St. on that Monday around 10:30 p.m. when she called 911. She was distressed but dispatchers could not tell what the exact issue was so they sent a patrol car to check on her.

When the police arrived they found Ross with a gunshot wound in her home. She was taken to a local hospital and died on Aug. 25 at 4 a.m.

“We are eliminating potential suspects and working every day talking to friends and family who best knew the victim,” Floyd County Police Department Sgt. Chris Fincher said.

Fincher said they’ve received some information, but could still use assistance in finding who shot Ross.

Rome police are also still investigating a shooting that took place early that morning. There is no indication at this time that the shooting is related to the one in Shannon.

A woman was struck by a piece of drywall dislodged when a bullet entered her residence on Aug. 24 at 1 a.m. in North Rome.

A Rome Police Department report stated officers were flagged down in the area of Perkins Street after the home had been fired upon.

The woman told police she felt the drywall hit her shoulder as she was laying down getting ready for bed. There was also a baby, who was unharmed, in the residence at that time.

Police found the spent round in the living room of the home as well as six spent shell casings fired from either a 9mm or

.40 caliber firearm outside.

Police are searching for juvenile males who they suspect to be involved in the incident.

The victim in the North Rome shooting are related to an earlier shooting in West Rome on Aug. 15 at a West Butler Street home.

Police investigators earlier said there were several shell casings outside the West Butler Street residence and estimated there were 12 to 15 shots fired from a vehicle. In that case, a bullet went through the house and struck a 15-year-old.

The woman injured in the Perkins Street incident identified herself as the mother of the 15- year- old injured in the West Butler Street incident.
