Today is National Anthem Day

In the early years of the republic, there were a few popular patriotic songs, such as "Yankee Doodle" and "Hail Columbia," but there was no national anthem. Today we celebrate the "The Star-spangled Banner," which became the official national anthem of the United States on March 3, 1931.
