Rome woman charged with sale of meth, intent to distribute

A Rome woman was arrested at Little Garden convenienc­e store on Dean Avenue Thursday night on meth related charges, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Michelle Lynn Akins, 46, sold meth to a confidenti­al informant back in December at the same location. Akins is charged with possession of meth, intent to distribute and sale of meth.

She was held without bond Thursday.

Mr. Donald Wilson Beard, age 76, of Rome, GA, passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021, at a local hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.

Donald was born in Rome, GA on May 6, 1944, son of the late Marvin Wilson and Ruby Smith Beard. He was also preceded in death by KLV ¿UVW ZLIH RI \HDUV Joyce Ann Floyd Beard, by a daughter, Donna Ann Beard Davis, and by a sister, Rachel Joan Buice. Donald attended Armuchee High School and served our country in the United States Army. He was employed by Georgia Power Company for 32 years, retiring in 1999 as Fleet Services Foreman. After his retirement from Georgia Power, he was employed as the happiest truck driver you have ever met. He was employed E\ &RKXWWD :DWHU DQG ¿nally by Smith Brothers Logging until his second retirement in 2012. Donald loved the Lord, his family, and his country. Donald was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as Song Director, Sunday School teacher, and as a Deacon for many years. Donald loved to serve his community and was an active member of the Armuchee Ruritan Club, Georgia Power Ambassador­s, and Carpenters for Christ. He also had a love for travel, having covered the entire continenta­l United States in his motor home.

Survivors include his wife, Paulette E. Beard; son, Joey Beard (Jennifer); son-inlaw, Mike Davis; daughters, Pam Givens (Jim), Kristie Harris (Jason), Paula Tate (Joey), and Karen Hardin; grandchild­ren, Charlotte Beard, Ben Davis (Hannah), Brady Davis, Jay Graham (Bess), Rachel Givens, Burch Givens, Kaitlin Warren (Jackson), Graisen Harris (Drew), Marcus Harris, Nicholas Tate, Andrew Tate, Colt Hardin and Jaycee Hardin; great grandson, Brooks Warren; his sisters, Reba Carpenter and Mary Alice Caldwell; many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three special canine companions, Leah, Sophie and Ella.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at 3:00 pm at The Proctor Farm Outdoor Chapel with Pastor Billy Fricks and Pastor Brian %XWOHU RI¿FLDWLQJ ,QWHUPHQW will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting military honors. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, and masks are requested during the services.

The family will receive friends at Proctor Farm on Sunday from 1:00pm until 2:45 pm.
