Mr. James Richard Phillips, age 91, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Phillips was born in the Oostanaula Community of Gordon County, Georgia on December 5, 1929, son of the late Andrew Terrell Phillips and the late Myrtle Taylor Phillips. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Shepherd Phillips, on March 24, 2016, by two brothers, Max & A.T., and by two sisters, Louise & Patsy. Mr. Phillips was a graduate of Oostanaula High School and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving on the USS Wedderborn during the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he was the Powerhouse Superinten­dent at Temple Inland in Rome. Mr. Phillips was a former member of Calhoun Avenue Baptist Church and Sherwood Forest Baptist Church, and at the time of his death was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He and his wife had a nursing home ministry for 20 years in the Rome area. He was a member of the Georgia Mountain Music Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Denise Sims, Rome; a grandson, Jordan Brock, Rome; a brother, Thomas Phillips (Pauline), Cedartown; a sister, Virginia Brown, Calhoun; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 2pm at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Dr. Ralph Jenkins and Dr. 5RGJHU :KRUWRQ ZLOO RI¿FLATE.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Saturday from 1pm until 1:45pm with the Rev. Rayford Davenport dismissing in prayer. Social distancing measures will be followed, and the family asks that everyone wear a mask or face covering.

Pallbearer­s are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Saturday at 1:30pm and include: Active: Jordan Brock, Jeff Phillips, Gary Phillips, Rodney Bailey, Jeff Johnson, and Matt Rosser. Honorary: Nephews.
