SPEARS, Billy R.

Mr. Billy R. Spears, age 87, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Spears was born in Alabama on March 30, 1934, son of the late Rev. Coleman Silas Spears and the late Ruth G. Boggs Spears. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ida Vaunita Burkhalter Spears, on February 2, 2018, and by a sister, Eloise Spears. Mr. Spears was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean War. He was a faithful member of Blue Pond Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School, and served as the treasurer for many years. Prior to retirement, he owned and operated Spears Glass Company from 1976 until 2008. He was a charter member of the East Floyd Lodge #728, F. & A. M. where he had received his 60 year pin. Mr. Spears ORYHG WKH RXWGRRUV ¿VKLQJ and hunting. He was an avid Model Blue Devils Basketball and Atlanta Braves fan.

Survivors include a daughter, Tammy Moore (Michael), Rome; two sons, Michael R. Spears, Kingston, and Anthony Lee Spears (Marsha), Kingston; four grandchildren, Jessica Russell (Jonathan), Erin Pilgrim (Drew), Kadee Spears, and Thad Brannon; four great grandchildren, /RJDQ 5\PDQ *ULI¿Q DQG Livian; a brother, Rev. Don Spears; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Don Spears and the 5HY 0LNHO *DUUHWW RI¿FLDWING. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens with the Rev. Dixon Holtzclaw of¿FLDWLQJ DQG WKH (DVW )OR\G Lodge #728, F. & A. M. presenting masonic rites.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday from 12 noon until 1:45pm. At other hours, they will be at Mr. Spear’s residence.

Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday at 1:30pm and include: Thad Brannon, Jonathon Russell, Drew Pilgrim, Jeff Bohannon, Willie Garrett, Jeff Rampley,
