Mr. Donald Wayne Googe, age 73, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021. He was born on November 16, 1947 in Thomaston, Georgia. He was the son of the late Austin Lincoln and Mary Magdelene Clements Googe.

Mr. Googe was a member of the Day Spring Assembly of God. Prior to retirement, Mr. Googe served three years in the US Army, attended Coosa Valley Technical School (Radio and TV/ Electronic­s), he worked at Rome Plow and Jockey Menswear in Cedartown. He retired from Georgia Power with 34 years of service as lead lineman at the Rome Division and 1 & 2 test shop technician at Plant Bowen in Taylorsvil­le, Georgia.

Donald’s interest during his life, before being disabled with Multiple Sclerosis, was ¿[LQJ WKLQJV +H FRXOG ¿[ anything...cars, machinery, appliances, toys, electronic items and the list goes on. If KH KDG SDUWV OHIW RYHU KH ¿Jured they were not needed anyway. So, we have multiple coffee cans of “left over” parts. His favorite motto when all else fails, read the instructio­ns. He could even ¿[ D EURNHQ KHDUW +H OLNHG to weld, do things with his tractor, and he did a lot of work in building our house. Other things he enjoyed were boating, camping, skiing, ¿VKLQJ ULGLQJ KRUVHV DQG swimming.

Donald cared about his family, friends, and was compassion­ate in helping others. He helped in raising his three grandchild­ren and enjoyed playing with his nieces and nephews. Making jokes and laughing with people was also a joy for him. He was a believer in the Lord and was baptized in a little creek off Chulio Road, Rome, GA by Robert Anderson of Day Spring Assembly of God. He insisted on saying prayers ¿UVW WKLQJ LQ WKH PRUQLQJ before going to bed, and at the table before eating.

Mr. Googe is survived by his wife, Eugenia Whatley Googe; children, Helen Michele Googe Deems, Hunter M. Deems, Brittany F. Deems, and Tanner B. Deems; brothers, Ralph “Buddy” Googe, James Googe, Ronald Googe, and *UHJ 3DGJHWW DQG H[WHQGHG family of Mrs. Googe, Annice Whatley of Lagrange, Georgia, and Sarah Lynette Osborne of Cedartown, Georgia.

Mr. Googe is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Lee Holland.

The funeral arrangemen­ts for Mr. Donald Wayne Googe will held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at one o’clock in the afternoon in the chapel of Gammage Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne %HQH¿HOG RI¿FLDWLQJ DQG DOVR Mr. Greg Padgett and Mrs. Carol Wisenburg speaking. Interment will follow in the Northview Cemetery with full Military Rites conducted by the Rockmart Legion and full Masonic Rites.

The family of Mr. Ingram will receive family and friends on Friday, November 12, 2021 from eleven o’clock in the morning until the funeral hour at the Gammage Funeral Home.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearer­s: Ralph “Buddy” Googe, James Googe, Greg Padgett, Mike Googe, Rick Googe, and Steve Wisenburg. Honorary pallbearer­s will be Leroy Minshew and Dale Farmer.
