CORNETT, Ruby Lumsden

Ruby Lumsden Cornett, age 96, departed this earth on April 3, 2022, at her home in Little Texas Valley just outside of Armuchee, GA in the presence of her family, after a brief illness. She was born in the year of our Lord, 1926 on the 6th day of February at her parents’ farm near Rainesvill­e, Alabama. She was the youngest and last surviving member of eight brothers and sister born to Gordon H. & Mattie Cooper.

Reared during the Great Depression and coming of age during the midst of World War 2 she met and married a returning WW 2 Veteran Otis Lumsden of Shannon, Ga.

Otis W. Lumsden and Ruby Arlene Cooper were married June 22, 1946. They were happily married for 48 years until Otis passed away April 22, 1995. They were blessed with three surviving children, Charles A. Lumsden and wife, Monna, of Buckhead, GA, James E. (Eddie) Lumsden and wife, Teresa, of Armuchee, GA, and Patricia Lynn Singleton and husband, Lane, of Armuchee, GA.

In 2010 Ms. Ruby met and married Lewis Cornett. They were married for eleven years until he passed October 17, 2021

Ms. Ruby spent most of her adult life in the Armuchee Community where she was known and loved by many. She was a member of New Armuchee Baptist Church and sang in the senior adult choir. She was a faithful member of the Joy Club and the Ladies Senior Adult Sunday School Class.

Much of her profession­al life was spent at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia where she served for 40 years as a Switchboar­d Operator and Help Desk Attendant until her retirement in 2010. She was known for her ready smile and servant’s heart as she helped everyone who came through the door often in times of distress and crisis. Her kindness and helpfulnes­s was appreciate­d by all those she ministered to.

Ms. Ruby is survived by her three children, four grandchild­ren, Josh Singleton of Acworth Georgia, Jason Singleton of Rome, Ga, Julie Mitchell of Duncan, SC, and Elisa Hudson of Frisco, Tx, 13 great grandchild­ren and one great-great grandchild. Two other grandchild­ren, Rebecca Leigh Lumsden and Kim Lumsden Lambert, preceded her in death.

Funeral Services will be held at New Armuchee Baptist Church on Saturday April 9, 2022, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until time for the funeral. The Georgia State Patrol Honor Guard and the Floyd County 6KHULII¶V 2I¿FH +RQRU *XDUG will be presenting honors. Interment will take place following the funeral in the family plot at New Armuchee Cemetery, Armuchee, GA. Pallbearer­s are Kevin Mitchell, Nick Mitchell, Josh Singleton, Jason Singleton, Clint Hudson, AJ Floersch, Lane Singleton and Bennie Lambert. The family has requested that donations be made to The Gideons Organizati­on in memory of Ruby Lumsden Cornett.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, has charge of the arrangemen­ts.
