Mrs. Verna Faye Cox, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at a local senior living. Mrs. Cox was born in Athens, Alabama on October 5, 1929, the daughter of the late William Henry Laxson and Retha Vincent Laxson. She grew up on a farm as one of ten children and frequently referenced her time picking cotton. She, along with three of her siblings moved to Chicago, Illinois to work at Continenta­l Can. She then moved to Rome, Georgia to attend nursing school at Battey State Hospital and continued working in the nursing profession until her retirement in 1993, Mrs. Cox was a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ. She enjoyed visiting yard sales on Saturday mornings, camping trips with her husband, and being “MawMaw” to her grandchild­ren. Mrs. Cox is survived by her daughter Marsha Faye Horne (Tim); her grandson Jackson Horne (Megan), granddaugh­ter Savannah Horne, and great-granddaugh­ter Penelope “Penny” Faye Horne; sisters Ruby Singer, Linda Carter (Don) and brother Mahlon Laxson. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 42 years L. Dee Cox and their son Martin Keith Cox; her sister Arlene Pressnell and brothers Melvin Laxson, Cliffton “Shorty” Laxson, John Laxson (Bobbie), Marion Laxson, and Joe Laxson (Douglas). A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday April 9, 2022 at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens located at 2549 Shorter Ave. 1: LQ 5RPH ,Q OLHX RI ÀRZers, memorials may be made to the Oak Hill Church of Christ, 1500 Martha Berry Blvd., Rome, GA 30165 or to Georgia Agape, 3094 Mercer University Dr., Suite 200, Atlanta, GA 30341.
