Silver Creek man charged with entering autos, meth possession

A Silver Creek man was arrested on Dean Avenue early Sunday morning when he was observed on surveillan­ce video entering unlocked vehicles, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Joseph Matthew Wheeler, 24, is charged with felony entering an auto with the intent to commit theft and felony possession of meth as well as misdemeano­r possession of drug-related objects. He was being held without bond as of Monday.

ROME MAN CHARGED WITH STALKING

A Rome man was arrested Saturday afternoon on Dean Avenue after he followed and lunged at a person he was court ordered not to contact and refused her request to leave her alone, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Ronald Dwight Hammitt Jr., 47, is charged with felony aggravated stalking. He was being held without bond as of Monday.

POLICE: ALABAMA MAN HAD STOLEN GUN

An Alabama man was arrested Friday night on Old Dalton Road on charges that he had a stolen pistol and was intoxicate­d while driving, reports stated.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Michael Franklin Vaughn, 61, is charged with misdemeano­r DUI and felony possession of a stolen firearm.

AR-15 STOLEN FROM VEHICLE IN WEST ROME

Rome police were called to a residence on Alma Road Saturday evening in reference

to reports of a vehicle being broken into and items stolen.

According to Rome Police Department reports:

The complainan­t stated someone entered his backyard and removed the car cover to his 2006 Jeep Liberty Renegade. They also smashed the driver’s side window and stole an AR15 rifle in a black case in addition to his stereo and speakers. The rifle is valued at $800, the stereo and speakers were worth $250. The owner did not have the make, model and serial number of the rifle.

SHOTS FIRED INTO NORTH ROME HOME

Rome police were sent to a home on Jim Keaten Lane late Sunday night in response to reports of shots being fired into a home, reports state.

According to Rome Police Department reports:

When officers arrived they found three bullet holes in a window by the bedroom, which they photograph­ed. They also collected the bullets as evidence.

The complainan­t stated she returned from buying lottery tickets to discover the shots and believes she was targeted because of jealousy over a new relationsh­ip.
