MINIATURE MOUNTAIN CREATURE IN RWANDA DISCOVERED AS NEW SPECIES

- –The Charlotte Observer –The Dallas Morning News

A “squeaker”-like sound pierced the air of a mountain forest in Rwanda. The call came from a “miniature” creature sitting on the forest floor. Scientists found the source of the sound — and discovered a new species.

J. Maximilian Dehling ventured into the Nyungwe Forest on several trips between 2010 and 2018, he wrote in a study published Oct. 23 in the journal Diversity. During these surveys, a “very small” frog caught his attention.

He found six of these “miniature” frogs and, taking a closer look, discovered a new species: Arthroleptis nyungwensis, or the Nyungwe squeaker frog.

The Nyungwe squeaker frog is considered “miniature,” reaching about 0.6 inches in length, the study said. It has a “slender” body, “long” legs and roughly textured, or “shagreened,” skin.

It varies in color but generally has a brown-red body with small white dots speckled across its sides. The frog’s underside is a lighter brown with two distinct yelloworange stripes on its belly. possible sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office office. They are in addition to eight charges of making false statements to lenders against the developer once heralded as a burgeoning real estate mogul in the Texas capital.

Paul is accused of conspiring to obtain investments from limited partners “by falsely representing that he would isolate the partnership’s assets to be used exclusively for the benefit of the partnership,” a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated. The new indictment alleges Paul allowed unrestricted access to the funds.

During Paxton’s impeachment, it was revealed that Paul had worked closely with the attorney general in efforts seen by some former employees as attempts to undermine the federal investigation.

The Texas House impeached Paxton in part over his dealings with Paul in May. The Senate cleared the attorney of all charges in September and Paxton has returned to office.
