Vikings release full 2024 schedule

- From Berry Athletics

Berry head coach Tony Kunczewski has released his team’s 2024 slate after a 9-1 season overall and 7-1 record in conference play last year.

The Vikings are set with a challenging slate in the 2024 season. The team will kick off the new year against Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, where the Vikings hold a 2-1 record over the Hawks, including a 67-34 win in the matchup last season.

Berry will then hold its first home game at Valhalla Stadium against Depauw on the Sept. 14 for a midday game beginning at 1 p.m. This will be the first time ever that the two teams have matched up. Depauw went 10-1 last season and had an undefeated conference record at 8-0, winning the NCAC and falling in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship.

The Vikings will continue their home stretch the following weekend against Sewanee to start SAA play. Berry currently holds an eight-game win streak over the Tigers and defeated them last season 61-23.

Berry will hit the road to Millsaps on September 28 to take on the Majors who they also hold an eight-game win streak over, including a 64-7 win in 2023.

Berry returns home for Mountain Day on Oct. 5 against Southwestern. The Vikings defeated the Pirates for the first time last season, 52-10 in Texas.

The biggest matchup on the schedule for the SAA will take place in San Antonio, Texas, on Oct. 12, when the Trinity Tigers and Vikings face off at 2 p.m. Trinity was the only team last season to hand out a loss to Berry by a 46-37 score in a tight game throughout.

Closing out October, the Vikings host Centre College on the 26th. All-time against the Colonels, Berry has defeated them seven times, including a 49-16 victory last year.

November consists of three tough opponents — Rhodes, Birmingham-southern and Hendrix. This year the Vikings will host the Panthers but travel to Memphis and Conway for their respective SAA games.

The other team Berry looks to finally tie the overall record against is Birmingham-southern, where the Vikings are down 5-6 overall but had a huge win last season, holding the Panthers to six points.

“We are excited for the challenge the 2024 schedule brings,” said Kunczewski, who will enter his 12th season leading the Vikings. “We will have to be ready to play right out of the gate in the non-conference portion of our schedule. We play two teams with a combined 18-3 record in 2023. This should prove to be a great test before we open conference play. This team is highly motivated to improve on last year’s results.”
