Alto Park names new assistant principal

Floyd County Schools Superinten­dent Glenn White has named Dena Tracy the assistant principal at Alto Park Elementary School.

Tracy comes back to the Floyd County school system from Shorter University, where she’s been the assistant professor of Education since 2019. However, she began her career teaching at Mchenry Elementary in 1993, and spent 19 years teaching at Pepperell Elementary.

“I am honored and excited to have been selected as assistant principal of Alto Park Elementary School,” said Tracy. “Floyd County Schools has been a part of my life for many years.”

A native of Rockmart, Tracy graduated from Jacksonvil­le State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Education degree in Early

Childhood Education and a Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education.

Prior to JSU she attended Floyd College, which is now Georgia Highlands College, and graduated with an Associate of Science degree. She later added an Educationa­l Specialist degree from JSU in 2009.

“Floyd County Schools have always held a special place in my heart, and I look forward to building champion learners with the exceptiona­l teaching staff and wonderful families of Alto Park Elementary School,” Tracy said. “I am very grateful to Mr.

Patrick Hopper, Dr. Glenn White, Mr. Danny Waits, and all members of our school board for this amazing opportunit­y.”

Dena begins her new role with FCS with experience­s such as team lead, lead professor and member of the teacher education committee at Shorter.

She’s also earned certificat­ions and endorsemen­ts including the Reading Endorsemen­t, Tier I in Educationa­l Leadership and Digital Citizenshi­p.

Dena is married to Bob Tracy and they have one son, Ty.
