Berry softball rises to No. 5 in latest NFCA Poll

Berry softball has upped their ranking to No. 5 in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll released on Tuesday.
The rise in ranking comes from a nine-game win streak and still remaining undefeated in conference (Southern Athletic Association) play. Senior first baseman Morgan Frye leads the team at the plate with an average of .481 and an on-base percentage of .613. She has scored 36 runs on 39 hits so far. Anna Jackson, another standout for the Vikings, leads the team with 40 RBIS.
When it comes to home runs, Katie White holds the crown with five, and in the circle three-time
SAA pitcher of the week, freshman Ava Fouts, leads with 11 wins in 55 innings pitched. Allamerican Hannah Gore sits at a 1.07 ERA (the lowest on the team) in her 52 innings pitched as well.
Berry is back on the road this weekend for a tough SAA matchup against Birmingham-southern starting Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. before the the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.

SOFTBALL Frye earns SAA weekly honor
Berry’s Morgan Frye has been named the SAA Athlete of the Week.
Frye earns this after a sweep of SAA opponent Hendrix this past weekend. In the three-game series she went 5-for-8 at the plate with five runs and four RBIS. Defensively she had eight put-outs against the Warriors.
Frye and the Vikings are back in action this weekend at Birmingham-southern.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE Larsen grabs conference award
Berry’s Haley Larsen has earned SAA honors as the Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Larsen earns the nod after two stellar wins this past weekend, first defeating Sewanee and turning around within 24 hours and defeating Southwestern.
In the games the senior posted four goals and had one assist across the weekend. She won seven draw controls and scooped six ground balls to aide her team in victory.
The Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday at Oglethorpe at 6 p.m.
MEN’S LACROSSE Irwin collects SAA Defensive honor
Berry’s Addison Irwin has claimed his first SAA honor as Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Although the Vikings fell in a nail-biter to Sewanee this past weekend, Irwin accumulated 15 saves in the game and had a saving percentage of 0.652.
The graduate student has been essential for the Vikings between the pipes and broke a Berry school record for career saves. He ranks sixth in NCAA Division III with total career saves.
Irwin and the Vikings are back on the field for Senior Day on Sunday against Birminghamsouthern at 1 p.m.
