Mr. Marvin Devo Couey, Jr., age 79, of Silver Creek, GA, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, in Gadsden, AL.

Mr. Couey was born in Rome, GA, on September 12, 1944, son of the late Marvin Devo Couey, Sr., and the late Sarah Gertrude Deaton Couey. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Patricia S. Couey. Mr. Couey was a 1964 graduate of Coosa High School where he excelled as a four-sport athlete (Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track) and was a part of the State Champion football team. He was a veteran of the Unites States Navy earning the rank of

the Navy Seabees, MCB-6, A Company, and served 2 tours in Vietnam from 19661968 where he received 3 bronze stars and numerous

and awards. After his discharge from the Navy, Mr. Couey worked as a heavy equipment mechanic. He owned and operated Marvin Couey Equipment Repair from 1976 until his retirement. Mr. Couey was a member of the Euharlee Masonic Lodge # 457, the Cartersvil­le Masonic Lodge # 62, and the Rockmart Masonic Lodge # 97.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Sandy Couey, Adairsvill­e, Marti Couey (Enrique Iruegas), Cartersvil­le, and Nicole Couey (Mark Brenneman), Tallahasse­e, FL; 3 grandchild­ren, Kiersten Iruegas, Athens, Abbigail Brownlee, Cartersvil­le, and Sarah Beth Brownlee, JBLM, Washington; his sister, Evelyn Land, Rome; special cousin, Tony Smith; friend, Eli Wacaster; his brother-in-arms, Dave Jones, Columbus, OH; his masonic brother, Walt Lochridge; nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family whom he loved dearly.

A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Georgia National Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by The United States Navy Honor Guard with assistance from the Rome American Legion Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. At 7pm, Masonic rites will be performed by the Euharlee Masonic Lodge # 457.
