National Correctional Officers WEEK

May 1, 2022 – May 7, 2022

-

According to President Ronald Reagan’s proclamation declaring “National Correctional Officers Week:” On

May 5, 1984, Correctional Officers have the difficult and often dangerous assignment of ensuring the custody, safety, and well-being of the over 600,000 inmates housed in our nation’s prisons and jails, which he described as “a difficult and dangerous assignment.”

National Correctional Officers Week will be held in the United States during the week of May 1, 2022, to pay tribute to Correctional Officers. These officers are also being recognized this week by the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and the County of Santa Clara for their professionalism, honesty, and tenacity in the face of a

difficult and hazardous work environment.

More than 800 Correctional Officers are working for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. Those who work in our profession know what a thankless and often dangerous job the field of Corrections is. With staffing shortages, limited resources, and strained budgets, we know how hard our correctional officers and administrators have to work to run a constitutionally safe facility. This week, we shine a beam of light on you to remind you of our gratitude and respect for you and your contributions to our communities, society, and the organizations you serve.

As fellow Correctional Officers, the Santa Clara County Correctional Peace Officer Association (SCCCPOA) understands the dangers you confront, the impacts you make in the lives of people in your care, and the unwavering commitment and dedication you have shown to your profession as a Correctional Officer. May we remember those who have served, those who have paved the way, and those who are no longer with us; we salute you too!
