FUTURE UNITED NATIONS DELEGATES
Fifteen students and two advisors from The Roeper School in Bloomfield Hills participated in the North American Invitational Model United Nations conference in Washington, D.C.
The students represented 11 nations or organizations during the conference, which was held Feb. 13 through 16. Senior Richard Li and sophomore Rosalyn Li of Troy won “Honorable Mention” in the Economic and Financial Committee, representing Bangladesh, as did senior Kayla Park of Troy and junior Hannah Wise of West Bloomfield, representing Libya in the Arab League.
Roeper was one of four Michigan schools of 134 schools from North America, Latin America and Europe. Roeper delegates addressed resolutions on Women, Children and Equal Education in Africa; Security in
Britain, Indonesia and Russia; and Water, Green Finance, Energy Accessibility, and Sustainable Tourism. In addition to conference activities, Roeper students received a pre- conference briefing at the Pakistan Embassy from Political Counsellor Sidrah Aslam on South Asian regional political, social and security issues.
The North American Invitational Model United Nations conference is one of the oldest UN simulations for high school students in the world. Three thousand high schools students convene for four days to explore various problems of the world and seek solutions through discussion, negotiation and debate.
