Preliminary exam scheduled for alleged killer of mom of 3
A preliminary examination is scheduled for July 13 for the Pontiac man charged with killing his long-time girlfriend on April 24.
Roderick Junior Washington, aka Roderick Junior Brooks, faces open murder and firearms charges in the death of Shanae Clayton, 42.
Authorities say Washington, 46, told them he shot her and left her for dead. Clayton’s body was found in a vehicle on Osmun Street in Pontiac.
At the preliminary exam, Judge Michael Martinez of 50th District Court in Pontiac will review evidence and determine if there’s cause for the case to proceed to Oakland County Circuit Court.
Washington is a convicted felon whose criminal history includes possession of a controlled substance, malicious destruction of property, receiving/concealing of stolen property, and breaking and entering. He was reportedly Clayton’s boyfriend of 18 years and the father of two of her three children.
According to a GoFundMe account set up to help ease costs associated with raising her children, Clayton suffered for years as a victim of domestic violence.
