Lamphere moves to 5-0, wins MAC Bronze

The Madison Heights Lamphere Rams rolled to a 65- 0 win over the host Clawson Trojans to claim the MAC Bronze title on Friday night.

The Rams started fast as Tariq Taylor returned the opening kickoff 60 yards to the Clawson 31yard line. Two plays later, Nico Hernandez scampered in for the opening touchdown, and Lamphere was off and running.

The Rams piled up 212 yards rushing as a team and ran for five touchdowns in the first half – three of them by Hernandez.

The Ram defense, led by the play of Drew Webster, who had a game-high 14 tackles, shut down the Clawson offense while also forcing seven turnovers.

“We’re playing great defense, andwe have tremendous balance. We’re running inside. We’re running outside, and we’re throwing the ball,” first-year Rams head coach Art Maisano said. “It’s a team effort. We’ve got great coaches. We’ve got great players, and this administra­tion has been supportive. It’s kind of one of those things that it all just fell into place.”

By the end of the first quarter, Lamphere had a commanding 35-0 lead, and the Ramsnever looked back.

Led by the play of Michael Moss, who led Clawson with 11 tackles, The Trojan defense would rally in the second half, as Clawson did not allow an offensive touchdown after halftime.

With the win, Lamphere improves to 5- 0 on the year and clinches the MAC Bronze title.

“It means a lot for Lamphere in general. Lamphere has been up and down. We’ve had some success here and there,” Maisano said. “It’s that team mantra we’ve been living by. In the past, there were some individual­s that were put ahead of the team, and we came in and said no one coach, no one player. No one is more important than the team, and it’s been working out.”

Lamphere closes out the regular seasonwith a home date against Hazel Park next week.
