Pedestrian dies after being struck by motorist

A pedestrian died after he was struck by a motorist in Troy on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The motorist, a 41-year- old Troy man, told police he was proceeding through a green light while traveling west on East Maple Road, east of John R Road at about 7 p.m. He told officers he attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian, a 63-year-old Troy man.

Officers responding to the accident found the pedestrian lying in the intersecti­on. They rendered medical aid, including CPR, with the help of a nurse who stopped to assist. The driver showed no signs of intoxicati­on and voluntaril­y submitted to a blood draw, police said. Police did not release the names of the pedestrian or driver.
