Marijuana proposal leaning toward passage in early tabulation hours

Results were still unclear just after 10 p.m. for the Village of Lake Orion ballot proposal to allow zoning for medical and recreational marijuana facilities.

As of 10:15 p.m. on election night, the proposal had 67% of voters in favor of the proposal and 32% against out of 763 counted ballots according to the unofficial results. The Village of Lake Orion has only one precinct at the Blanche Sims Elementary School.

Turnout was high across the county for the presidential election with the Village of Lake Orion also seeing a steady stream of voters.

If the petition led ballot proposal is approved, it would allow for two marijuana provisioning centers open in the village. The proposal states that only one of those provisioning centers would be allowed to sell strictly medical marijuana, while the other can sell both adult-use and medical products. Approximately 10 properties would be able to host the facilities within the village’s borders under the proposal’s zoning restrictions for schools, churches and neighborhoods.
