Board approves marijuana measures
Waterford has approved a set of ordinances to bring medical marijuana facilities to the township.
The township’s board of trustees unanimously approved the zoning and licensing requirements early last week. The documents are the culmination of over a year of research on other municipalities marijuana laws, work sessions and public hearings, according to the township supervisor.
Ten medical marijuana facilities licenses will be made available in the township, two for each type of state licensed facility. That includes growers, processors, provisioning centers, safety compliance facilities and secure transporters.
A map showing the protected zoning areas, such as the 500-foot radius for schools and religious institutions, will be made available to the public by the township clerk in the coming weeks. Facilities for growing medical marijuana will have an extended radius of 750-feet from protected zoning areas
Waterford Township opted out of allowing recreational marijuana facilities to open in May 2019.
