Another Oakland County football team is having to bow out of the playoffs.

South Lyon, who was scheduled to host North Farmington in a Division 2 district final on Friday, is forfeiting due to COVID-19.

“As with many other organizations across the state, our district continues to process cases of persons who tested positive or probable positive for the unprecedented COVID-19 virus. Working with the Oakland County Health Department, the response to these cases and associated contact tracing can have an unintended impact on students, staff, families, classes, programs and activities. Unfortunately, SLHS will not be playing in the football game this Friday,” South Lyon Athletic Director Mike Teagan said in a statement.

The Lions were coming off a 4237 win over Walled Lake Western last Friday to advance to the next round of the playoffs. South Lyon finishes its season at 6-2, having won its last four games.

The Lions are the second football program in Oakland County to have to end its playoff run due to COVID-19. Rochester Adams

had to forfeit its scheduled game with Davison last week for the same reason.

Birmingham Groves also had to forfeit its game this week with Warren Mott, but COVID-19 was not the reasoning. The MHSAA ruled that the Falcons used ineligible players during the postseason.

Across the state, two other programs also had to forfeit due to COVID-19. Portland in Division 5, and Pewamo-Westphalia in Division 7 also ended their seasons this week.
