After 25 years with Farmington Public Safety including six years as director, Frank Demers recently announced his retirement from the department, accepting a role with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for the State of Michigan.

N ame d as his successor is

Ted Warthman, currently serving as interim public safety director. The

Farmington City Council is expected to vote on his appointment as public safety director later this month.

“I am honored to have been selected to lead the Farmington Public Safety Department in my current role as interim director,” Warthman said. “I consider it to be a premier public safety agency filled with professional men and women who give their best day in and day out.”

Demers, in a farewell during a remote Farmington City Council meeting in late December, thanked his family, city council members, Farmington City Manager Dave Murphy and his public safety colleagues for support and encouragement during his years in public safety. He also expressed appreciation for the Farmington community, particularly in light of criticism which law enforcement in general has received over the past several months.

“Through it all, our residents have continued to be vocal supporters of the public safety department,” Demers said. “We are so grateful for your support. It has truly been my honor to serve you.”

Demers said Warthman has been a “trusted friend and colleague for many years.”

“Ted is a true leader with a proven track record of success,” Demers said. “He will most certainly bring fresh ideas and work hard to maintain the high standards this community expects and deserves of its public safety department.”
