HENRETTY, GEORGE T.

-

George T. Henretty (Mr. Henretty to you) of Berkley passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020, at the age of 74. He was many things to many people: a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and sibling; an accomplished martial artist; a crocheter of countless warm and useful items; a (retired) teacher and student of foreign languages; a loyal friend; and a quietly singular presence in any room. His family and friends miss him dearly, but take comfort in the knowledge that so many people will remember him as their favorite teacher, the guy who actually attempted to learn Klingon once he had mastered Spanish and French, or the person who helped them when they needed a hand. He is survived by his wife, Dawnelle (Bugher) Henretty, a son, Lyle (Jennifer Dondero), a daughter, Aubrey, a grandson, George, sisters Florence (William) Nezamis and Mary Jo Henretty-Jornales, a brother, Lyle (Merry) Henretty, sister-in-law Sandra Bugher, and extended family including cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Florence (Held) Henretty, a sister, Kathy (Alan) Wells, and brother-in-law Jeffrey Bugher. After graduating from St. Louis University, he taught French and Spanish at Walled Lake High School, Shrine High School in Royal Hills. He instructed many martial arts students as a skillful and enthusiastic Sensei. A service will be held at Our Lady of LaSalette in Berkley at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
