Nearly 2,000 new cases reported on Saturday

Nearly 2,000 new cases of coronaviru­s were reported in Michigan on Saturday. There were 1,932 new cases of the virus and 103 new deaths due to the virus, making 535,534 total cases and 13,804 total deaths due to the disease in Michigan.

At least 90 of the 103 new confirmed deaths on Tuesday were identified during a vital records review, which are conducted regularly by the state.

These counts exclude probable cases and deaths linked to COVID-19 and include only confirmed cases and deaths.

Health officials have also been tracking results of statewide testing. So far, 8,902,388 diagnostic tests have been conducted.

As of Friday, a total of 442,408 Michigande­rs have recovered from COVID-19 (30 days out from onset of illness), a total which is updated by the state every Saturday.

According to Johns Hopkins University, worldwide on Saturday, the number of cases reached over 94.2 million with deaths at over 2.01 million.

In the United States, over 23 million cases have been reported with over 393,000 deaths tied to the disease.

Michigan ranks as the eighth state in the U.S. with the most total number of deaths, with New York as first.

The state is also fourteenth in the nation in cases, Johns Hopkins says, with California as first.

Oakland County was first in the Detroit area on Saturday with the most new cases, 249, and 13 new deaths, making at total of 59,156 cases and 1,712 deaths in the county.

Wayne County was next with 235 new cases and 10 new deaths, for a total of 59,227 cases and 1,895 deaths.

Macomb County followed with 123 new cases and 16 deaths, totaling 50,932 cases and 1,678 deaths.

And, in the city of Detroit, 122 new cases were reported, as well as 6 new deaths, making 27,548 cases and 1,755 deaths.

In mid-Michigan, Isabella County had no new cases and 1 new death, keeping the case total at 3,345 and increasing total deaths to 60.

Gratiot County had 3 new cases and 2 new deaths, for a total of 2,334 cases and 87 cases in the county.

Clare County also quoted 1,217 total cases and 57 total deaths, which are the same totals as the previous day, meaning there were no new cases or deaths.

The Michigan Department of Correction­s (MDOC) cited 85 new cases and 1 new death, putting it at 22,295 total cases and 133 total deaths.
