Over 1,000 new cases reported on Saturday

State also reported 97 new virus deaths

Michigan reported 1,018 new cases of coronaviru­s on Saturday, according to the state’s website.

The state also reported 97 new deaths due to the disease, putting Michigan at 567,648 cases and 14,894 deaths, in total.

At least 82 of the 97 new confirmed deaths on Saturday were identified during a vital records review, which are conducted regularly by the state.

These counts exclude probable cases and deaths linked to COVID-19 and include only confirmed cases and deaths.

Health officials have also been tracking results of statewide testing. So far, 9,708,516 diagnostic tests have been conducted.

As of Friday, a total of 488,495 Michigande­rs have recovered from COVID-19 (30 days out from onset of illness), a total which is updated by the state every Saturday.

As of Friday, according to Michigan’s website, 1,818,225 vaccines have been administer­ed. Pfizer vaccines make up 870,675 of that total, while Moderna vaccines account for 947,550.

In Oakland County, 178,325 vaccines have been distribute­d, in Macomb County, 79,000 and in Wayne County, 65,325.

The state recently added a coronaviru­s vaccine section to its webpage, explaining the coronaviru­s vaccine and displaying a dashboard to give an overview on vaccine distributi­on in Michigan.

According to Johns Hopkins University, worldwide on Saturday, the number of global cases reached the milestone of over 105.7 million with deaths at over 2.3 million.

In the United States, over 26.8 million cases have been reported with more than 461,000 deaths tied to the disease.

Michigan ranks as the eighth state in the U.S. with the most total number of deaths, with New York as first.

The state is also 14th in the nation in cases, Johns Hopkins says, with California as first.

In the Detroit area on Saturday, Wayne County had the most new virus cases with 123 new cases and 14 new deaths, totaling 62,408 cases and 2,010 deaths.

Oakland County followed with 97 new cases and 7 new deaths, making 62,442 cases and 1,816 deaths, in total, in the county.

Macomb County was next with 71 new cases 11 new deaths reported, putting the county at 53,506 cases and 1,802 deaths total.

And, in the city of Detroit, there were 64 new cases and 7 new deaths, increasing the county’s overall totals to 29,070 cases and 1,817 deaths.

In mid-Michigan, in Isabella County, 3 new cases and 1 new death were reported, creating 3,460 cases and 70 deaths in total.
