Adams, Groves split on the softball field

Softball

The Rochester Adams and Birmingham Groves softball teams split a pair of games on Friday. Groves won the opener 9-2 and then Adams took the nightcap 13-1.

Groves put up four runs in the third of the opener to take command against Adams. Taegen Lemberg struck out seven to get the win for Groves in the circle. Rylee Wilson and Kennedy Quinn each drove in a pair of runs for the Falcons. Elizabeth Blaine had two hits with a triple, while scoring both runs for Adams.

The nightcap saw Adams jump out to a 10-1 lead after two winnings. Sabrina Lee got the win in the circle with four strikeouts over five innings. Gianna Arnone had four hits with two doubles and two RBI, while Lee had three hits, and Ella McDonald and Madison Kesman each drove in two runs. Sophie Konkal drove in the lone run for Groves.

ZIEMKE HOMERS THREE TIMES FOR TROY

The Troy softball team split a pair of games with Auburn Hills Avondale on Friday. The Colts lost 13-12 in the opener, but then grabbed an 18-8 win in game two.

In the opener, Kayla Ziemke had three home runs for Troy. Caiti Warner finished with seven hits over the two games.

Emma Schmidt and Mackenzie Down each homered for Avondale in their 13-12 victory.

STONEY DROPS TWO TO UTICA

The Stoney Creek softball team was edged by Utica Ford in two games on Friday, 3-2 and 12-9.

In the opener, Stoney posted two runs in the seventh to tie the score, but Ford got a walk-off win on a RBI single. Kaylie Misiak and Persephone Ballard each had two hits in the loss. Maddie Laviolette had four strikeouts in the circle.

In game two, Stoney Creek held a 9-6 lead, but Ford rallied for six runs in the bottom of the fourth to eventually win in five innings. Megan Greenwald had two home runs and five RBI in the loss while Anna Machak also homered for the Cougars. Ballard added two hits and two RBI.

Baseball

OXFORD 10, EISENHOWER 1

The Oxford baseball team grabbed a 10-1 win over Eisenhower on Friday.

Nolan Kutchey got the win in five innings with five strikeouts on the mound. Tony Hatzigeorg­iou had two hits, including a two-run home run for the Wildcats. Gavin Walters doubled twice and had a single.

OLSM 5, CHELSEA 3

The Orchard Lake St. Mary’s baseball team earned a 5-3 win over Chelsea on Friday to move to 11-0 on the year.

Parker Brzustewic­z got the win on the mound with five strikeouts while Jasen Oliver got a two-inning save.

Jack Crighton had two hits and two RBI, while Alex Mooney also drove in a run.

NOVI 9, BELLEVILLE 5

The Novi baseball team earned a 9-5 win over Belleville on Friday.

Brendon Bennett threw six innings and had six strikeouts on the mound to lead the Wildcats, while Alex Czapski got the save.

Eddie Shima had three hits and two RBI to lead Novi at the plate while Czapski had two hits and scored two runs.

STONEY CREEK 8, EVEREST COLLEGIATE 0

The Stoney Creek baseball team earned a shutout win over Clarkston Everest Collegiate on Thursday.

Brendan Davis earned the shutout win on the mound for the Cougars, while Zach Hager had a pair of hits and Zac Jones tripled.

CRANBROOK 10, LAMPHERE 4

On Friday, Madison Heights Lamphere suffered a 10-4 loss to Cranbrook-Kingswood.

The Cranes put up five runs in the third inning and never looked back.

KJ Whitman had a double and a triple to lead the Rams, while Nick Krstich had two hits and a RBI.

LAMPHERE 9, FERNDALE 2

The Madison Heights Lamphere baseball team improved to 4-0 on the season Thursday with a 9-2 win over Ferndale.

Nick Krstich had four hits and drove in three runs to lead the Rams at the plate, while Dylan Chargo had two hits, two RBI and scored three runs.

Robert Cole, Noah Atherholt and Nick Cole combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound for Lamphere.

Boys golf

LAKELAND TAKES THIRD

The Lakeland golf team finished third at the Lapeer TunerUp at Metamora Country Club on

Friday. The Eagles shot a 334, finishing just four shots behind the winner, Lapeer.

McCoy Biagioli led the Eagles with a 76, finishing second overall. Marcus Kainhofer shot an 83, while Hal Schnell scored an 85 and Anthony Awad posted a 90.

Girls soccer

SEAHOLM 6, GP NORTH 1

The Seaholm soccer team picked up a 6-1 win over Grosse Pointe North on Friday.

Seaholm was led by a pair of goals from Ava David. Macy Rothweil, Allie Adams, Kate Lund and Maxime Vincent each scored a goal for the Maples.

NOVI 1, CANTON 0

The Novi girls soccer team edged Canton on Thursday night, 1-0.

Lindsay Dahlinger scored the lone goal for the Wildcats in the victory, while Abbey Pheiffer recorded the shutout in net.

Boys lacrosse

TROY 13, EISENHOWER 6

The Troy boys lacrosse game came through with a 13-6 victory over Utica Eisenhower on Thursday night.

Jack Scott led the Colts in the victory with eight goals.

Girls tennis

CLAWSON 6, STERLING HEIGHTS 2

The Clawson girls tennis team picked up a 6-2 win over Sterling Heights on Thursday.

Singles winners for the Trojans were No. 1 Layna Thompson, No. 2 Hannah Saunders, No. 3 Abby Holmes and No. 4 Ena Dokic.

Doubles winners were No. 1 Ava LaMotte and Natty Lertkasem, as well as No. 2 Olivia Bailey and Arnella Pobric.
