Nine Secretary of State offices closed due to virus surge

Residents advised to conduct business online, at remote kiosks

Nine Secretary of State (SOS) offices, including the SOS offices in Troy and Dearborn, have closed due to the COVID-19 surge in Michigan, according to reports by FOX 2 Detroit, MLive.com and The Detroit Free Press.

And, in lieu of the closures, residents are being advised to conduct their business online or use the multiple remote SOS kiosks previously installed in locations like Kroger and Meijer throughout the state.

According to FOX 2, the Troy, Dearborn, and Livonia branches are being deep-cleaned after coronaviru­s exposures.

And, according to MLive.com, Secretary of State Press Secretary Aneta Kiersnowsk­i confirmed the nine branches are closed due to COVID-19 exposures.

Residents with existing appointmen­ts are able to have them honored at nearby branches, Kiersnowsk­i also told MLive.com.

Here’s a list of the affected branches:

Troy

Located at 1111 E. Long Lake Road

• Closed on Monday, April 12 around midday due to a coronaviru­s exposure

• Set reopen on Monday, April 26.

• Appointmen­ts are being honored at Rochester Hills and Sterling Heights SOS branches.

Howell

Located at1448 Lawson Drive

• Closed on Wednesday, April 7 the office opened due to Covid-19 exposure

• Was scheduled to reopen this past Monday

• Appointmen­ts honored at Highland and Novi SOS branches

Dearborn

Located at 5094 Schaefer Road

• Closed on Friday, April 9 before the office opened due to a coronaviru­s exposure

• Was scheduled to reopen this past Monday

• Appointmen­ts are being honored at the Inkster and Redford SOS

branches.

Livonia

Located at 17176 Farmington Road

• Closed on Monday, April 12 before the office opened due to a coronaviru­s exposure

• Scheduled to reopen on Monday, April 26

• Appointmen­ts are being honored at the Southfield and Canton SOS branches.

Ypsilanti

Located 3315 E Michigan Avenue

• Closed on Monday, April 5 at the end of the day due to a coronaviru­s exposure

• Reopening date extended and still still to be determined, was likely to reopen Monday

• Appointmen­ts are being honored at Lansing Executive Ct. and Mason SOS branches.

Newberry

Located at 504 W McMillan Avenue

• Closed on Tuesday, April 13 before the office opened due to a coronaviru­s exposure

• Was scheduled to reopen Tuesday.

• Appointmen­ts are being honored at the Sault Ste. Marie SOS branch.

Wyoming

Located at 1056 Rogers Plaza SW

• Closed on Tuesday, April 13 around midday due to a coronaviru­s exposure

• Scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, April 27

• Appointmen­ts are being honored at the Hudsonvill­e, Grand Rapids — Plainfield Avenue and Grand Rapids — 28th Street SOS branches.

Owosso

Located at 1720 E Main St.

• Closed on Thursday, April 8 around midday due to a coronaviru­s exposure

• Reopening extended and still to be determined

• Appointmen­ts are being honored at the Flint SOS branch, located at Fenton Road.

West Branch

Located at 2394 E Michigan 55

• Closed on Monday, April 5 before the office opened due to coronaviru­s exposure

• Reopening date was extended this past Monday

• Appointmen­ts are being honored at the Prudenvill­e SOS branch.
