The National Society Children of the American Revolution celebrated their 126th anniversary on April 5.

To recognize Founder’s Day, the Waterford Elias Cady Society chapter invited their young members – Emma Nelson and Parker, Nicole and Macie Hagle – to participate in community service and help clean up areas where leaves, twigs and debris were found.

Linda Irving Royse, senior president, said, “We wanted to clean-up the Waterford Historic Village as this is a frequent stop for the Elias Cady Society over the years. I invited the Waterford Historical Society’s president, Sally Strait, to stop by on April 12 to say hello to the children who were helping with the clean-up. Sally was so excited for the opportunity and thanked all of us.”

Elias Cady Society senior board members gave each family tools for picking up items, and goodie bags including garbage bags, hand sanitizer, sanitized wipes, and a treat. Senior Treasurer Deb Rakoczy brought all the tools that were used.

“We have such a team atmosphere at the society,” Royse said. “The (volunteers) did their work at the Waterford Historic Village, plus the park grounds, and still had time to participate in some ‘Magnet Fishing’ entertainment where they fished out metal from the pond to help clean that too. The adults helped and all had fun.”

The Waterford Elias Cady Society is looking forward to historic village buildings reopening.

Royse said the society has items that they would like to donate from the current State Project by President Moria Brady, “as she brought POW-MIA awareness to each of our local societies this past year.”

There were several individual events for community service from society families too. Britton, Ilan and Lyndsay Lawless cleaned up debris and bottles at Lake Sixteen in Orion Township, and Emma and Amy Nelson with their Cub Scout Pack 182 Wolves cleaned up twigs and debris at the Drayton Nature Center Trails in Waterford Township. In the spirit of community service Emma, Charlotte and Christina Hauser collected items for birthdays and gathered items from a grocery store, to give to a local food shelter in Rochester.
