Kosmo’s football predictions for Week 7

-

It’s hard to believe that the playoffs will be starting in less than a month.

The 2021 season seems to be flying by. It doesn’t hurt that the weather has been pretty great thus far.

This week is another weekend in the 70s with plenty of great matchups.

Conference races are tightening up and playoff hopes are starting to dash.

Emotions will be running high.

My emotions were already high trying to make this week’s picks.

FRIDAY

Orchard Lake St. Mary’s at

Detroit Catholic Central: It was a tough week for both squads last week in CHSL matchups. This week, Kosmo looks for the Shamrocks to be the ones to bounce back. The Eaglets have been struggling defensively and that’s not good against this CC team that can air it out.

Kosmo Says: Catholic Central Lake Orion at Clarkston: The Wolves are coming off a tough loss, but refocusing shouldn’t have been too hard with Lake Orion being on the schedule.

The Dragons play tough, but are coming out on the short end of things too often for Kosmo to pick an upset.

Kosmo Says: Clarkston

Troy at Troy Athens: The two rivals have a lot at stake in this game. It has as much meaning as it has in quite some time. The Red Hawks are going to make a game of it, but Troy has been just a little more locked in this year.

Kosmo Says: Troy

Birmingham Groves at Rochester Adams: Adams hasn’t had a misstep yet and Kosmo can’t pick against the Highlanders while they keep rolling along. Kosmo Says: Adams

Oak Park at Rochester: The Falcons have picked up some big wins over solid programs in recent weeks. This could be their toughest test yet. A win over Oak

Park would go a long way for the Rochester program. The Knights won’t make it easy.

Kosmo Says: Rochester

Milford at Waterford Kettering:

How about those Mavericks? They have been the “Cardiac Mavericks” in the past few weeks, but still find ways to win. Those emotional wins should help them take care of business this week and lock up a playoff spot.

Kosmo Says: Milford

Walled Lake Northern at South Lyon:

Northern has been scratching and clawing in the Lakes Valley Conference and coming up just short. This week it going to feel like trying to climb Everest.

Kosmo Says: South Lyon

West Bloomfield at Southfield A&T:

Loads of talent will be on the field in this one. The Lakers should be riding a big high following a win over Clarkston. They can’t overlook this Southfield squad, though. The Warriors can play spoiler very easily. Kosmo Says: West Bloomfield Oxford at Stoney Creek: It will be another smash mouth game in the OAA Red between these two. Which one will provide a little more smash? Kosmo flipped a coin.

Kosmo Says: Oxford

North Farmington at Birmingham Seaholm: The Maples have struggled to find their groove offensively. That is a problem against a North Farmington team that can pile up the points. Kosmo Says: North Farmington Lakeland at South Lyon East: The Cougars are going to always give their all, but Lakeland isn’t any different. The Eagles know how to grind out victories and will continue to do so.

Kosmo Says: Lakeland

Ferndale at Bloomfield Hills:

The Black Hawks are on a fast track right now and Ferndale doesn’t seem to have the ability to stop them.

Kosmo Says: Bloomfield Hills

Farmington at Pontiac: Pontiac is celebrating its history and opening a new field. That should lead to some motivated play. Despite that, Farmington looked to turn a corner last week and we may see the best of the Falcons this week.

Kosmo Says: Farmington Waterford Mott at Walled Lake Western: Mott and Western have been on the end of some pretty tough losses this season, but both have a lot of potential. Whichever team can avoid unforced errors is likely to win. In that situation, Kosmo has to go with the home team.

Kosmo Says: Walled Lake Western

Auburn Hills Avondale at Royal Oak: Avondale has been playing better football in recent weeks and Kosmo thinks that trend will continue at Royal Oak.

Kosmo Says: Avondale Walled Lake Central at Cranbrook-Kingswood: Cranbrook and Walled Lake Central are looking for something positive right now. The Cranes have some winning experience to rely on. The Vikings are trying to end a 23-game losing streak, but it doesn’t quite feel like this week is the week.

Kosmo Says: Cranbrook

Clarkston Everest Collegiate at Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes:

Everest Collegiate is rolling along right now and Waterford Our Lady is definitely outmatched. The Lakers are making improvements, but

CEC is a few rungs ahead on the ladder.

Kosmo Says: Everest Collegiate

Novi at Howell: It’s a tough draw this week for Novi. Howell is coming off its first loss last week in a 29-7loss to Hartland. The Highlanders are going to be pretty motivated at home. Kosmo Says: Howell

Flint Kearsley at Holly:

It’s been tough for Holly to find some consistent offense. That’s a problem in the Flint Metro League, where there’s plenty of high-powered offenses. Kosmo Says: Kearsley Berkley at Clarenceville: The Bears continue to find ways to win and their offense has hit another gear. Kosmo Says: Berkley Pontiac Notre Dame Prep at Detroit Prep Science & Math: Not much needs to be said here. Irish are going to roll.

Kosmo Says: Notre Dame Prep

South Lake at Madison Heights Lamphere: The Rams lock up another MAC division title with a win at home this week. Lamphere’s offense has been dominant in conference play. Kosmo doesn’t see that changing this week. Kosmo Says: Lamphere Corunna at Ortonville Brandon: The Blackhawks took their first loss of the season last week as their offense has slowed down in recent weeks due to a key injury. Still, Brandon has a lot of resiliency and will find a way past Corunna this week.

Kosmo Says: Brandon

Clawson at New Haven:

The Trojans put forth their best showing last week in a 42-0win. Now, Clawson gets winless New Haven.

Should be another Clawson victory.

Kosmo Says: Clawson

Hazel Park at Clintondale: Hazel Park has hit a speed bump in recent weeks, but Kosmo likes the Vikings to right the ship this weekend. Kosmo Says: Hazel Park Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard at Madison Heights Bishop Foley: It’s a big opportunity for the Ventures to secure at least a share of the CHSL Intersectional 1 title on Friday. The way the Ventures play, it’s hard to see them not coming through.

Kosmo Says: Bishop Foley University Liggett at Royal Oak Shrine: Shrine has flipped the season around and is still sitting tied atop the CHSL Intersection 2 right now after three straight wins. Look for a fourth straight win against Liggett.

Kosmo Says: Shrine Madison Heights Madison at Marine City: The Eagles haven’t been able to take flight in MAC Silver play and now draw unbeaten Marine City. It’s probably going to be a long night.

Kosmo Says: Marine City Parkway Christian at Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest: The Crusaders got back on the winning track last week with an impressive 41-0victory. Now, to start that elusive win streak! Kosmo Says: Lutheran Northwest

SATURDAY

Chicago Christ the King Jesuit at Birmingham Brother Rice: It’s a long way to go for Christ the King, and Brother Rice looks like a new team after last week’s impressive win against St. Mary’s.

Kosmo Says: Brother Rice
