Comic Con reunites Lansing native with former co-stars
Playing Shaggy in the “Scooby Doo” franchise is one of the highlights of actor/director Matthew Lillard’s career.
“For me, Shaggy’s a great job,” said Lillard, of Los Angeles, a Lansing native who lived in Brighton until he was 10. “My career has spanned 30 years. You’re hoping you’ll be remembered in any capacity, whether it’s ‘Scream’ or ‘Scooby Doo’ or ‘Good Girls’ (the NBC drama based in Oakland County). It’s just nice you’re remembered.”
Lillard — whose other bestknown role is Stu Macher in 1996’s “Scream” — will attend the Motor City Comic Con in Novi the weekend of May 13-15. There, he will reunite with “Scream” costars Jamie Kennedy and Skeet Ulrich, as well as Freddie Prinze, Jr. Lillard and Prinze co-starred in 1999’s “She’s All That,” 1999’s “Wing Commander,” 2001’s “Summer Catch,” 2002’s “Scooby Doo,” and 2004’s “Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.”
William Shatner (“Star Trek”), Alan Ritchson (“Reacher”), Krysten Ritter (“Jessica Jones”), Alicia Silverstone (“Clueless”), Danny Trejo (“Desperado”), Cary Elwes (“The Princess Bride”), Caity Lotz (“Legends of Tomorrow”), Katie Cassidy (“Arrow”), and several actors from all four Christopher Reeve “Superman” movies — including Sarah Douglas (“Superman II”) — will also attend. This year is Douglas’ third time at Motor City.
“The fans are fantastic. They’re always good because we have a really good fanbase. For me, it’s always a pleasure,” said Douglas, alias Ursa.
Motor City Comic Con will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, May 13; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 14; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15 at the Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave., Novi.
Ticket prices and packages range between $10 and $249. Kids (ages 5 and under) free all weekend, and kids 12 and under admitted free on Sunday. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit motorcitycomiccon.com.
