ELLERBY, JAMES BRUCE

-

Mr. James Bruce Ellerby, 73 of Johannesburg, Michigan died peacefully at his home on October 10, 2022, with his wife at his side. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan on July 3, 1949, to the late, Robert and Augusta “Jackie” (Hosey) Ellerby. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1969-1975 during the Vietnam War. James has resided in Johannesburg since 2003 but had owned a cottage in the area since 1996. He began coming up north as a small infant in the 1950’s and it was always his dream to retire here because he absolutely loved northern Michigan. Before retiring, James worked for the City of Royal Oak. He was very, very musical, and talented. James sang and played the bass and performed in the Kenneth Jewel Corral in Detroit, the Detroit Lutheran Singers, and the Prince of Glory Lutheran Church Ensemble in Royal Oak. He even played the bass for a couple of plays. He fostered special needs children with his wife, Sallie for 10 years and thoroughly enjoyed being up north. He will be deeply missed. James is survived by his wife, Sallie Ellerby of Johannesburg; brother, Robert (Mary) Ellerby of Portland, Oregon; stepbrother, Carl (Pat) Lundgren of New Hampshire; and stepbrother-in-law, Ronald Liesmer of Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Augusta Ellerby; stepdad, Clifford Lundgren; and stepsister, Karen. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. The family has chosen to remember James privately at this time. Donations may be made to the Charlevoix Area Humane Society in James’ honor.
