BUDDY COMING TO THE BALDWIN

Stagecrafters to present ‘Elf the Musical’

In time for the holidays, Stagecrafters in Royal Oak is presenting “Elf the Musical” at the Baldwin Theater starting the day after Thanksgiving.

The play was adapted from the movie “Elf” and was performed on Broadway for a few years starting in 2010.

“Elf the Musical” tells the story of Buddy, who was orphaned as a child and raised as an elf at the North Pole.

After Buddy later discovers he’s actually a human, he goes to New York City in search of his father and family.

Buddy discovers that his father is on Santa’s naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t believe in Santa, and sets about reminding everyone of the true meaning of Christmas.

The family musical is directed by Ebbie Landis-Sigler, who hopes audience members will leave the musical play with a sense of holiday spirit.

“If (audiences) leave feeling warm and smiling we have done our job,” Landis-Sigler said. “I’ve always thought if we would just break into a song in real life as Buddy suggests we might all find it a lot easier to deal with the problems of everyday life.”

More than 25 actors appear in the musical, and Buddy is played by Geoff Wrobel.

The musical runs about two hours and 30 minutes.

Fourteen performances at the historic Baldwin Theatre, 415 S. Lafayette, will start on Friday, Nov. 25 and run through Sunday, Dec. 18.

Tickets are $35 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday performances, and $25 on Thursdays. A $3 ticket fee is charged.

Tickets are available at stagecrafters. org, or by calling 248-541-6430.
