Bicyclist dies after crash with Jeep on Opdyke Road

Police are asking for any witnesses to a Monday evening crash to reach out investigat­ors.

A 47-year-old Bloomfield Hills man died on the evening of Halloween after being struck by a vehicle.

The accident occurred at 7:35 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, on Opdyke Road near Hempstead Road in Auburn Hills, the city’s police department reported.

“The preliminar­y investigat­ion reveals that the driver of the Jeep, a 25-year-old female from Attica, Michigan, was traveling northbound on Opdyke Road,” Auburn Hills police reported. “The bicycle, ridden by a 47-yearold male from Bloomfield Hills, was also traveling northbound on Opdyke Road.

“The Jeep struck the bicyclist in the roadway.”

Unresponsi­ve at the scene, the victim was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

The motorist was not hurt and was cooperativ­e with police.

“There were no other occupants in the Jeep, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash,” police said. “Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.”
