Getting where you need to go

-

There is a dire need for transit across all of Oakland County. In some communities, people without a car get around and live their lives. They can get to the doctors, or to stores, or to their work on the bus. The rest of the county doesn’t have any of this access, despite the fact that there’s an obvious demand for it.

My community of Waterford, for example, is a part of the West Oakland Transportation Authority, which has very little funding. As a result, it only services seniors and the disabled, has extremely limited hours and does not run during the weekends.

Think about what this means: no going out on your day off, or going to church on Sunday. Many churches here in Waterford buy old school buses and drive them around town to pick up churchgoers who are simply unable to get anywhere without a car.

These people deserve better than simply scraping by with dysfunctional transit, or none at all. In November we should all look out for our neighbors and our communities by voting yes on the Oakland County transit millage, and making sure everyone can get where they need to go.
